Upendo Community-Based Organization (CBO). This core principle underscores our dedication to
enhancing the lives of refugees and promoting community development. Here are key facets of
empowerment within Unity Upendo CBO

Business Skills and Ideas:
We empower our members by imparting essential business skills and fostering innovative ideas.
Approximately 60% of our members now operate self-owned Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
due to our initiatives. Women members have delved into businesses such as green groceries, shops,
and tailor shops, while both male and female youths are exploring barber and beauty shops, as well
as selling phone accessories. The economic activities undertaken significantly elevate living standards
and contribute to members’ livelihoods. Our CBO Shop has provided employment to three members,
and we aspire to expand, creating more opportunities for unemployed youths. The CBO aims to
establish significant ventures in the future, including the opening of a large
supermarket and at least one retail outlet for every self-help group.
